Docent Program

You do not need be an art historian or experienced teacher to become a docent at AMFA. Successful docents can come from a myriad of different backgrounds, as long as you have these qualities:

• Enthusiasm for learning and education
• Passion for art
• Desire to help and encourage others
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Tech savvy
• Multi-lingual a plus

As ambassadors of AMFA, docents must present to the public the best that the Museum has to offer. These responsibilities ensure that docents are part of a strong and robust program that is collaborative and inclusive, and works towards the success, growth, and safety of the Museum.

Docents are expected to:

• Complete a 10-week training period – 1 hour meeting per week, plus assignments
• Commit to a year of docent service following the training period
• Complete at least five credit hours each month. (This can include leading tours, providing gallery engagements, completing tour preparation and research, attending events, etc.)
• Attend monthly docent meetings
