AMFA offers children a variety of affordable, accessible, and playful educational experiences exploring the visual and performing arts. By attending interactive programs that encourage doing and making in a nurturing learning environment, students cultivate curiosity and foster a love of the arts as they grow into adulthood and beyond.

Ages 8+ | Collage and Paint

Inspired by Lori Larusso: Paradox of Plenty on view in the Robyn and John Horn Gallery, this Making Together invites you to connect your personal narratives in layers through collaging. Collaborate to create your story through mixed media, painting, drawing, and found imagery, and learn how to build a meaningful composition together.

Ages 8+ | Clay Gingerbread Houses
Celebrate the season with a creative clay project perfect for families looking to make holiday memories through art!
Team up and build your very own clay gingerbread-style house. Learn simple hand-building techniques like slab construction and decorative stamping to create your cozy clay cottage. Once assembled, you will add charming, personalized details.

Grades K-2 | Junie B. Art Experience
This special program invites young artists to enjoy an afternoon of live theatre and hands-on art-making! Young artists will start in the Windgate Art School, exploring drawing and collage as they begin a creative project inspired by storytelling.
At 2:00 p.m., students will attend a live performance of Junie B. in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells! in AMFA’s Performing Arts Theater. After the show, students return to the studio to finish their artwork, using what they saw on stage to bring their ideas to life.

Grades K-2 | Mini Makers: Creative Collage
Using the art of collage, young artists will create their own masterpieces by exploring materials like paper, fabric, and other fun textures. Inspired by AMFA's exhibition Lori Larusso: Paradox of Plenty, students will learn various techniques – including cutting, tearing, layering, and gluing – to design colorful, imaginative artwork.
Each week, they will explore new ways to combine ideas and form their creativity in art.

Young artists will dive into a creative construction zone where imagination takes shape through a variety of materials. Each week, students will build characters, animals, and imaginative scenes using cardboard, fabric, wire, wood, recyclables, and more.
They will learn sculpting and assembling by exploring hands-on techniques that bring their ideas to life while developing their creativity and problem-solving skills.

Students will explore a variety of techniques in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional art. Through hands-on projects in drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, and sculpture, they will experiment with different media and develop their artistic skills in each studio.
In addition to creating their own work, students will engage with art history and deepen their appreciation for the arts by visiting the AMFA galleries.

Inspired by the exhibitions on view in the AMFA galleries, this class encourages imaginative reuse and celebrates the beauty of repurposed materials in contemporary artmaking.

In this clay class, your young artist will learn the basics of the potter’s wheel to create and design functional and sculptural pieces and discover the value of placing them into everyday use.
Explore shaping, texturing, and patterning as surface design while developing skills in wheel-throwing. Techniques such as wedging, pulling, forming, and trimming will be explored.

This class is designed for young artists to explore 3-dimensional form and wearable design. Learn essential techniques in metalworking to strengthen portfolios: sawing and soldering, surface finishing, and transforming copper, found objects, and stones into sculpture and wearable art.
Develop a deeper understanding of design principles and craftsmanship to refine skills and showcase technical abilities.
