  • Beginner | Handbuilding
    Student pottery by Lynn Smith.

    Learn the fundamental techniques of handbuilding: pinch, coil, and slab. Explore how to combine these techniques to make functional and sculptural ceramics. Instruction will also cover the basics of glazing.

  • Intermediate | Soda Firing Workshop (SOLD OUT)
    Pottery by Zach Wollert.

    Learn the basics of Soda Firing, including using flashing slips, applying glazes, prepping work, loading the kiln, and firing schedules.

    Participants can bring up to ten bisque-fired pieces of highfire cone 10 rated clay to this one-day workshop to be fired in our soda kiln. Recent ceramic-making experience is necessary.

    Learn the basics of Raku Firing!

    Participants can bring up to five hand-sized wheel-thrown or handbuilt bisqueware to be glazed and fired during this one-day workshop. The instructor will demonstrate proper safety, glazing techniques, and material preparation.

    A perfect class for the true beginner or for those who need a refresher, this class offers an overview of drawing.

    Learn how to see like an artist by visualizing shapes and forms and understanding composition, perspective, light, and shadow.

    Explore the intersection of mindfulness and artmaking through a meditative ink drawing session with Delta Triennial artist Clark Valentine.

    Through a series of mindfulness practices and drawing exercises, students are encouraged to explore their “present-ness” in the creation of two drawings. The first drawing will be a response to body, emotion, and thought awareness, while the second drawing will respond to the Museum’s architecture.

  • Beginner and Intermediate | Drop-In Figure Drawing

    Drop in at any of these drawing sessions to work in an untutored setting from the draped or undraped model. Each three-hour session will feature a variety of timed poses, providing a dynamic experience for both students and artists.

    Must be 18+ to attend, as the sessions may use the undraped model. Instructor moderates the session and is available for critique and questions upon request.

    Learn how modern technology is changing drawing by learning to draw on a tablet device, gaining understanding of the different digital brushes, tools, and techniques one can use when sketching on a screen.

    iPads equipped with Procreate software will be available for use in class.

  • Intermediate | Figure Drawing Workshop
    Drawing by Robert Bean.

    Learn how to draw multiple figures together, creating a relationship between the figures that is both technically correct and visually interesting.

    Gain an understanding of relating the sizes of the figures together, placing the figures on the page correctly, and how to make it look like they are interacting with one another. Please view the supply list for suggested materials.

    Glass wall vase by Mary Nell Meyer

    Create colorful wall pocket vases for your walls and windows! These water-tight vases are wonderful for flower cuttings, dried flowers, herbs, incense sticks, or just left plain.

    Use thick fiber paper to create the form for the pocket of your vase and learn how to embed the chain hooks within your design. Learn glass-cutting techniques and design considerations.

    Learn the basic properties of wood and how to safely transform it from rough lumber into a finished project using the jointer, planer, table saw, band saw, drill press, chop saw, hand and power tools.

    Cutting board by Mark Hinton.

    Make a cutting board for kitchen use by learning how to use the jointer, planer, table saw, bandsaw, and router. Then, sand the cutting board and apply a food-safe finish.

    In this two-week workshop that meets on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings, learn the fundamental techniques of woodturning with emphasis on proper tool usage, methods of work holding, cutting vs scraping, and safety.

    Sessions include spindle turning and faceplate or bowl turning.

  • Intermediate | Woodturning Workshop

    Intermediate Woodturning picks up where Beginner Woodturning left off.

    In this two-week workshop that meets on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings, learn principles of bowl design, dry vs. green woodturning, harvesting bowl blanks from a tree vs use of “dry wood,” natural edge bowls, lidded boxes, and platters.
