  • Beginner | Ceramic Vase Workshop

    Create a unique cylindrical vase inspired by AMFA's Rivera's Paris exhibition. Students will visit the AMFA galleries to explore select artworks, gathering ideas for incorporating color and shape into their vase designs.

    Using underglaze and carving tools, you will bring your vision to life by adding intricate patterns and textures to your piece. Throughout the process, you'll learn how to manipulate the materials to achieve depth and contrast. Once your design is complete, a clear glaze will be applied by staff, enhancing and brightening your colors for a polished, finished look.

  • Intermediate | Soda Kiln Workshop
    Pottery by Zach Wollert.

    Learn the fundamentals of Soda Firing in this one-day workshop, which covers essential techniques such as using flashing slips, selecting glazes, prepping your work, loading the kiln, and understanding firing schedules.

    This hands-on experience allows participants to bring up to ten hand sized bisque-fired pieces to be fired in our high-fired soda kiln, where the vaporization of soda ash will create unique, beautiful effects on your ceramics.

    Designed for intermediate students, this workshop builds on recent ceramic-making experience and offers the opportunity to deepen your understanding of kiln firing and glazing techniques, resulting in one-of-a-kind pieces with dynamic finishes.

    Each three-hour session provides an opportunity to develop and refine your skills in an independent work environment.

    Join Ballet Arkansas Company Artist Lauren Yordanich and AMFA’s Windgate Art School Instructor Michael Lierly for an engaging workshop that combines movement and drawing!
