Lead Cultural Protection Officer (Second Shift)

The Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts (AMFA) is currently seeking a dependable, courteous security professional with visitor service skills and a strong sense of integrity to advance the institution after the recent grand opening of a new state-of-the-art facility.

Reporting to the Head of Security, the Lead Cultural Protection Officer plays the critical role of maintaining safety and security, reducing injury, and reducing property loss at the Museum.

In addition, the Lead Cultural Protection Officer provides routine protection of galleries and visitors by making continuous rounds throughout the Museum and assisting and informing visitors. They will have some administrative duties and direct supervision of Security Officers. They provide for the safety and security of the museum buildings, contents, grounds, guests and employees.

Daily security assignments will vary but all will require a high level of awareness, diligence, and customer service.

  • Second Shift: Tuesday thru Saturday (off Sunday/Monday), 3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
  • Full-time, Hourly, Non-Exempt
  • Must be able to pass criminal background check

Key Responsibilities:

  • Arrive on time and ready to work, as scheduled.
  • Work occasional mandatory overtime, as necessary.
  • Work in a professional and cooperative manner with other AMFA associates and employees.
  • Oversee Command Center, helping to ensure efficient daily security operations and sharing important general notices with security team.
  • Serve as primary incident contact and provide support for law enforcement agencies in the absence of the Director of Facilities and Security and Head of Security.
  • Perform administrative and operational duties for security-related functions associated with and assigned shift including responding to email and telephone communications.
  • Recommend improvements to security-related processes and procedures, strategies to improve efficiency, and correction for department functions.
  • Provide direction to contract security staff; train and supervise Cultural Protection Officers.
  • Identify staff training opportunities and recognize personnel requiring corrective action during an assigned shift.
  • Serve in CPO capacity, as needed.
  • Utilize surveillance systems to monitor the Museum premises, including galleries, entrances, and other key areas.
  • Always maintain high level of alertness and awareness.
  • Keep a watchful eye on guests, staff, and external activities to identify and respond to potential security threats and emergency situations.
  • Manage access points and ensure that only authorized personnel enter restricted areas.
  • Escort vendors and contractors, staying with them until their work is completed, never leaving them unattended.
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations, including but not limited to fire alarms, security breaches, and medical incidents.
  • Provide first-aid or CPR when necessary to assist guests and staff during emergency situations.
  • Maintain familiarity with Museum’s buildings, grounds, and building use policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular patrols of the Museum premises (interior and exterior) to deter criminal activity and negligence and detect any security vulnerabilities.
  • Remain up to date on information pertaining to the Museum’s current policies, promotions, activities, programs, exhibitions, and events.
  • Provide assistance and information to Museum guests, offering a friendly and helpful presence.
  • Enforce Museum policies and procedures while maintaining a positive and approachable demeanor.
  • Assist with regulating traffic flow through galleries to ensure smooth operations of daily activities and special events.
  • Document and report in detail any incidents, accidents, emergencies, or security concerns promptly and accurately.
  • Work closely with other Museum staff, including curators, event organizers, and facilities personnel, to coordinate security efforts for special events and exhibitions.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in security-related field is a plus.
  • 1-3 years related experience and/or training in a customer service-oriented field.
  • Proven experience in security role.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of emergency response procedures and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime.
  • Ability to read written materials and procedures and write detailed reports.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with guests and colleagues.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Physical demands:

  • Regularly stand and/or walk for prolonged periods of time (up to 5 hours at a time); sitting or leaning while on post is not permitted.
  • Regularly sit for prolonged periods of time (up to 5 hours at a time).
  • Regularly required to climb stairs.
  • Occasionally bend, lean, push, pull, stoop, and crawl.
  • Occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.

Communication demands:

  • Regularly required to use speech to interact with public.

Vision demands:

  • Regular use of visual acuity to review written materials, observe large crowds and provide detailed observations.

Work environment/exposure:

  • Work is performed both inside and outside Museum grounds.
  • Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions temporarily; occasionally includes rain, snow, ice, and extremely hot or cold temperatures.
  • Occasionally exposed to noise levels up to eighty-five decibels.
