Head of Building and Grounds

The Head of Building and Grounds will play a pivotal role in ensuring the optimal functioning, safety, and aesthetic appeal of our facilities.

Designed by the renowned architecture firm Studio Gang, the facility secures the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts’s position as one of the top cultural institutions in the state and region. The new AMFA features state-of-the-art galleries, Windgate Art School, theatre, lecture hall, outdoor event area, and other spaces to host programming, classes, and performances. The innovative Cultural Living Room, restaurant, store, and landscaped grounds position AMFA as a dynamic cultural hub for Little Rock and the Delta region.

The Head of Building and Grounds oversees the maintenance, cleanliness, and overall presentation and condition of the Museum building, landscaped grounds, and hardscape, including the parking lot. This position works in tandem with multiple departments, including Security and Guest Services.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage all vendors and associated contracts for Museum landscaping and custodial and third-party contractors for seasonal cleanings such as windows and hardscaping.
  • Provide effective leadership to assigned team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and accountability.
  • Supervise, train, and motivate AMFA team, third- party maintenance contractors, and volunteers to ensure the proper, efficient, and timely completion of department duties, adhering to safety protocols.
  • Serve as the liaison to the Little Rock City Parks Department in regard to MacArthur Park.
  • Provide timely and responsive updates and reports to Museum leadership.
  • Conduct daily inspections of landscape to ensure overall presentation and condition of grounds meets standards and quality expectations to include: weed control, sod management, mulch presentation, tree health, evergreens, natives, perennials, annuals, etc.
  • Schedule and assure preoperational and post-operational testing and inspection of grounds systems [i.e. irrigation system, irrigation controller, water meters & jockey pumps]
  • Work in the office and the field when necessary to complete the work.
  • Conduct daily inspection of exterior of building including limestone, brick façade, facia, windows, loading docks, waste enclosures, etc. to ensure overall presentation and condition standards and quality expectations.
  • Safely and productively manage preventive maintenance programs.
  • Help with support and coordination of events by scheduling team members to setups, event support, etc.

Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management or related field required.
  • 3-5 years of previous building and grounds experience required.
  • 2-5 years of previous supervisory experience required.
  • Bi-lingual, Spanish-speaking, preferred.
  • Proven leadership skills with focus on motivating and coordinating employees to complete tasks in a positive and meaningful manner.
  • Possess general knowledge of related OSHA guidelines and safety standards.
  • Ability to learn new information quickly and pass along in a meaningful way.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to complete various reports as well as report on projects in a clear, proficient, and effective manner, both written and orally
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with team and contractors.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook
