Museum Store Assistant Manager

The Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts, (AMFA), located in Little Rock, AR, seeks an Assistant Manager for the Museum Store.

In 2023, the Museum reopened following a four-year renovation that expanded the building and grounds. Designed by the renowned architecture firm, Studio Gang, the facility includes landscaped grounds, by the firm SCAPE, and secures the AMFA’s position as one of the top cultural institutions in the region. The building includes state-of-the-art galleries, an Art School, restaurant, Museum Store, theater, lecture hall, and other programming and event spaces.

The Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts (AMFA) in Little Rock, AR, is seeking an Assistant Manager for the Museum Store. The Assistant Manager helps manage the daily operations of the museum store while selling merchandise, memberships and providing excellent customer service. This position reports to the Museum Store Manager and must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Primary Duties and responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and partners with the Store Manager on comprehensive short and long-range marketing plans and programs to support revenue objectives for the Store.
  • Source unique merchandise with a strong artistic bias that fits the Store’s vision.
  • Work with locally, regionally, and internationally artists and artisans to create exceptional one-of-a-kind merchandise for the store.
  • Help create a memorable shopping experience with strong visual merchandising presentations, knowledgeable staff, and outstanding customer service.
  • Implement pricing policies for merchandise according to requirements for profitability.
  • Understand the ordering process and budget requirements.
  • Receive, process, stock, and train staff on incoming merchandise.
  • Drive and maintain sales promotions and visual merchandising strategies.
  • Create posts for the Store's Instagram account.
  • Create, write, and edit signage and product descriptions for the website and seasonal merchandise presentations.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining website product photos and inventory quantities.
  • Coach the sales team to meet individual sales and store goals.
  • Interview and train sales assistant candidates for open positions.
  • Assist with preparing the work schedule.
  • Perform the work of sales assistants as needed. Delegate and follow up on specific duties assigned to employees.
  • Address and document positive and negative performance. Write performance reviews.
  • Maintain and coach the daily presentation standards of the store and stockroom.
  • Ensure sales assistants follow and are held accountable for established security, sales, and record keeping procedures and practices.
  • Adheres to all AMFA policies, procedures, and practices. Represents the organization in a professional manner.

Candidate Profile:

  • Organized and proactive individual with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experienced in sales, customer service and inventory management.
  • Have Able to prioritize tasks and work in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Have an artistic or creative background, along with a passion for cultural institutions.
  • Proficient in Outlook, Word, Excel, Shopify, and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Physical ability to regularly walk and/or stand for long periods of time (up to 5 hours at a time). Frequently climb step stool; occasionally climb 6-foot ladder.
  • Use hands and fingers to grab and handle merchandise and perform financial transactions. Regularly bend, lean, push, pull, stoop, and crawl.
  • Occasionally lift more than 25 lbs.; occasionally up to 50 lbs.
