DESCRIPTION:Immerse yourself in a three-hour drawing session set in an untutored environment at the Windgate Art School. This dynamic experience will feature a variety of timed poses with draped and undraped models\, providing an excellent opportunity for first-time students and experienced artists alike to hone their skills. \nStudents must be 18+ to attend\, as the session may use the undraped model. An instructor will moderate the session and be available for critiques and questions upon request. \nStudents are encouraged to bring their own materials or purchase materials from the AMFA Museum Store. Recommended materials are graphite drawing pencils\, charcoals\, and a kneaded eraser. SUMMARY:A Legacy of Images: Art Talk with Kwame Brathwaite Jr.
DESCRIPTION:Examine the work and legacy of famed photographer Kwame Brathwaite through the unique\, personal perspective of his son\, Kwame Brathwaite Jr. \nLearn about Brathwaite’s powerful photography\, its lasting impact on Black identity and culture\, and the ongoing discovery of previously unseen works featured in Kwame Brathwaite: The 1970s\, on view at AMFA through October 12\, 2025. \nAbout Kwame Brathwaite Jr.\nKwame Samori Brathwaite\, son of photographer Kwame Brathwaite\, is the Director of the Kwame Brathwaite Archive. He manages the archive as well as collaborative projects that are concordant with the themes in his father’s work\, namely activism\, politics\, fashion and music. \nKwame Samori authored a chapter entitled “Fashion and Consciousness” in the book Mod New York: Fashion takes a Trip and an article entitled “A Look At Life Through My Father’s Lens” for National Geographic. \nHe has lectured at numerous institutions including Harvard Art Museum\, The Courtauld Institute\, USC\, Christie’s and Google among others. He co-curated Celebrity and the Everyday at Philip Martin Gallery (2018)\, curated Black is Beautiful: The Photography of Kwame Brathwaite\, a touring exhibition in partnership with Aperture Foundation (2019-2023)\, The Struggle Continues\, Victory is Certain (2020)\, Changing Times (2021) and My Village | New York (2022). \nKwame Samori\, also a real estate professional\, graduated from Amherst College in 1996 with a B.A. in Law\, Jurisprudence and Social Thought and received his MBA from USC’s Marshall School of Business in 2018. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Aperture Foundation in New York and Polytechnic School in Pasadena\, CA. \nHe is originally from New York City and currently lives in San Marino\, CA\, with his wife and three children. \n\n\n\nA Legacy of Images: Art Talk with Kwame Brathwaite Jr. is supported in part by the Alice L. Call 501.396.0348 for more information. \n\nAbout Nathalie Miebach\n\n Boston-based artist Nathalie Miebach creates innovative installations that intersect art and science. She deeply researches and tracks data connected to weather patterns and natural disasters to explore their impact on people’s lives. Like a scientist\, Miebach gathers research and creates data sets\, translating the information into colorful\, playful\, and even hopeful installations made from painted paper\, wood\, and other various materials. Miebach distills the scientific complexity behind her work to reveal human stories of resilience and ingenuity in the face of our changing environment. \n\n\n\nVisually stunning\, Miebach’s installations also function as multi-act\, musical scores interpreted by composers to function both visually and aurally. \n\n\n\nMiebach holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Eastern Asian Studies from Oberlin College\, Ohio\, along with two Master’s degrees\, in Fine Arts\, sculpture\, and Art Education both from the Massachusetts College of Arts. She also completed courses in astronomy\, physics\, and oceanography at the Harvard University Extension\, School\, Massachusetts. Miebach’s solo exhibitions include presentations at the Institute of Contemporary Art – San Diego\, California\, the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft\, Houston\, Texas\, and Fuller Craft Museum\, Brockton\, Massachusetts among others.
