DESCRIPTION:Kick off Glyneisha Johnson’s artist residency at AMFA with a social hour featuring a specialty cocktail inspired by her favorite drink. \nGuests will have the opportunity to visit with Glyneisha\, ask questions about her artistic practice\, and learn more about the work she plans to create during her time at the Museum. \nGlyneshia Johnson is an Artist-in-Residence at AMFA from August 12\, 2024\, to September 1\, 2024. \nAbout Glyneisha Johnson\nGlyneisha is a poly-disciplinary artist\, educator\, and community caretaker archiving the inherent healing nature of matrilineal Blackness through processes of ethical collaboration informed by Black feminist scholarship. She organizes workshops\, spaces for communal reflection\, produces publications\, living archives\, installation and exhibition work examining the public and private experiential nature of the Black Interior as a source of refuge\, healing\, and imagination. \nShe is co-founder of Strange Fruit Femmes\, a Black and Brown femme lead collective that provides free programming for youth and adults centering transformative healing through the arts. Glyneisha is a 2020 Charlotte St Award Fellow and recipient of the 2020 Byron C. Cohen Award. She has exhibited\, presented\, and been in residence at Art Omi\, Bemis Center for Contemporary Art\, Juanita J. Craft residency\, The Nerman Museum for Contemporary Art\, SCAD Museum of Art\, Springfield Museum of Art\, Springfield Museum of Art\, and more. \n\nThe Artist-in-Residence program is supported by the John and Robyn Horn Foundation.

SUMMARY:Drop-in Figure Drawing
DESCRIPTION:Immerse yourself in a three-hour drawing session set in an untutored environment at the Windgate Art School. This dynamic experience will feature a variety of timed poses with draped and undraped models\, providing an excellent opportunity for first-time students and experienced artists alike to hone their skills. \nStudents must be 18+ to attend\, as the session may use the undraped model. An instructor will moderate the session and be available for critiques and questions upon request. \nStudents are encouraged to bring their own materials or purchase materials from the AMFA Museum Store. Recommended materials are graphite drawing pencils\, charcoals\, and a kneaded eraser. Using art materials and simple objects\, build your own design and test its speed on the Museum’s imaginative Little Rock F1 Race Circuit\, a collaborative drawing that will be created throughout the run of the exhibition. \nAs you explore each studio\, imagine what it would feel like to be a student in the Windgate Art School\, meet AMFA’s talented teaching artists\, learn more about our Reduced Tuition Program\, and discover the incredible range of classes and workshops available for all ages and experience levels. \nHere is what’s happening in each space: \n\nDrawing Studio – Theatre Games\nWheel Throwing Studio – Pottery by Hand & Wheel\nHandbuilding Studio – Still Life Drawing\nMetals Studio – Beaded Bracelets\nGlass Studio – Glass Beads & Sculpting\nWood Shop – Veneer Patterns\n\n\nThe Windgate Art School is generously supported by the Windgate Foundation. \nWindgate Art School’s Reduced Tuition Program is supported by Michael Laughter.
