SUMMARY:Concert Series: René Marie
DESCRIPTION:René Marie\, known for her dynamic voice and versatile talent\, has left an indelible mark on the world of music over two decades. Her work\, encompassing 11 albums and numerous performances\, transcends genres\, blending jazz with elements of folk\, R&B\, classical\, and country. \nRooted in the traditions of jazz icons like Ella Fitzgerald and Dinah Washington\, Marie’s compositions explore the depths of human experience\, offering a powerful affirmation of the human spirit. \nBorn in 1955 in Warrenton\, Virginia\, Marie’s journey in music began with informal exposure to various genres during her childhood. Despite minimal formal training\, her passion for music persisted\, leading her to sing in R&B bands as a teenager. However\, she put her musical ambitions aside to fulfill familial obligations until her late thirties\, when she returned to singing. \nFacing personal challenges\, including leaving an abusive marriage\, Marie embraced music as a source of strength and healing. Since then\, she has produced numerous albums\, performed on stage\, and launched initiatives like SLAM\, offering vocal therapy sessions. \nMarie’s latest album\, Sound of Red\, showcases her insightful songwriting and sensual vocal delivery\, providing a deep emotional resonance for listeners. Through her music\, she continues to inspire and uplift audiences\, embodying the healing power of music. \n\n\nPhoto courtesy of the artist. \n\n\n\n\nWEBSITE\n\n\n\nSPOTIFY\n\n\n\n\n\nThe 2024-2025 Concert Series is supported by Saracen Casino Resort.

SUMMARY:Filmland: Arkansas Showcase – All Happy Families
DESCRIPTION:Catch a screening of All Happy Families co-written by Arkansas native Coburn Goss\, directed by Haroula Rose\, and executive produced by Michael Shannon. \nAbout the Film\n\nHaroula Rose’s charming dramedy stars How I Met Your Mother‘s Josh Radnor as Graham\, an actor and writer in a slump and still waiting for his big break while his hugely successful brother Will (Rob Huebel) stars in his own sitcom. On the weekend before new tenant Dana (Chandra Russell) is due to move into their childhood home\, the siblings and their parents find themselves unexpectedly under the same roof again\, where every corner reveals secrets and surprises and the family airs out long-held resentments. \nThis slice-of-life film features a terrific ensemble cast\, including the pitch-perfect Becky Ann Baker as Sue\, the matriarch who’s tired of having to hold everything together and John Ashton as Roy\, a grump who needs to change his ways but doesn’t seem capable of doing so. \nRose delicately weaves a deeply relatable portrait of family dysfunction with all of its delightfully entertaining mess coming to the surface over the course of one eventful and unforgettable weekend. \n\nRun Time: 90 minutes \n\n\nWATCH THE TRAILER\n\n\n\n\n  \nThis screening is presented in partnership with the Arkansas Cinema Society. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
