DESCRIPTION:Experiment with printmaking during this three-hour drop-in experience at the Windgate Art School. Open to beginner and experienced artists alike\, it’s a great way to learn a new art form or work independently on your own projects. \nAn instructor will moderate the session and be available for critiques and questions upon request. \nStudents are encouraged to bring their own materials or purchase materials from the AMFA Museum Store. SUMMARY:Reframed: An Art History Class
DESCRIPTION:Art plays an important role in our perception of the expression of emotions. Having awareness of our own body’s movements as we observe paintings can disclose new ways of understanding expression in art\, nature\, and people. \nJoin James Dow\, PhD\, Professor of Philosophy and the Director of Marshall T. Steel Center for the Study of Religion and Philosophy at Hendrix College\, as he discusses how empathy can be cultivated through engagement with expression in paintings. \nRegistered participants will also enjoy a charcuterie board\, beverages\, and a complimentary AMFA sketchbook. \nAbout James Dow\n\n\n\n\n\nJames (Jamie) Dow is Associate Professor of Philosophy at Hendrix College\, Director of the Steel Center for the Study of Religion and Philosophy\, and Chair of the Study of the Mind. Jamie teaches courses in the departments of philosophy\, cognitive science\, and environmental studies focusing on philosophy of mind\, environmental philosophy\, action theory\, and aesthetics. \n\n\n\nSince completing his Ph.D. at the CUNY Graduate Center in 2011\, he has published articles on self-consciousness\, expert bodily action\, joint action\, environmental disobedience\, and nature aesthetics. \n\n\n\nHe is now working on a book– Enacting Nature’s Value – which argues for an enactivist approach to environmental value focusing on the aesthetic appreciation of natural environments. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

When you stop by\, do not forget to wish her a happy birthday! \nJiha Moon is an Artist-in-Residence at AMFA from May 25\, 2024\, to June 8\, 2024. \nAbout Jiha Moon\nJiha Moon is from DaeGu\, South Korea\, and currently lives and works in Tallahassee\, Florida. Moon’s gestural paintings\, ceramic sculptures\, and installations explore fluid identities and the global movement of people and their cultures. \nShe takes cues from a wide range of history of Eastern and Western art\, colors and designs from popular culture\, Korean temple paintings and folk art\, internet emoticons and icons\, and labels of products from all over the place. She often teases and changes these lexicons so that they are hard to identify yet stay in a familiar zone.   \nMoon’s work has been acquired by museums around the country including The Asia Society\, The High Museum of Art\, The Mint Museum of Art\, The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden\, Renwick Gallery\, and The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. \nShe is the recipient of Guggenheim award and Joan Mitchell Foundation’s Painter and Sculptor’s award\, and her mid-career survey exhibition\, Double Welcome: Most everyone’s mad here\, organized by Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art and Taubman Museum\, has toured more than 15 museums around the country. \nMoon is currently an Assistant Professor in the Art department at Florida State University. \n\nStudio Visit with Jiha Moon is supported by the John and Robyn Horn Foundation and the Alice L. DESCRIPTION:Immerse yourself in a three-hour drawing session set in an untutored environment at the Windgate Art School.
