SUMMARY:Poetry and Limited Palette Painting Workshop with Greta Kresse
DESCRIPTION:Write\, reflect\, and paint in this hands-on workshop with Delta Voices artist Greta Kresse. Explore how language and color can inspire one another as you craft a limited palette\, using a small but intentional selection of colors\, shaped by the mood\, rhythm\, and imagery of your writing. \nThrough guided exercises\, discussion\, and painting\, discover how creative constraints can open new possibilities for storytelling and self-expression. \nThis two-day workshop meets on Saturday\, June 28\, and Sunday\, June 29\, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. \n\nAbout Greta Kresse\n\nGreta Kresse (b. 1999\, Little Rock\, AR) is a plein-air painter based in Fayetteville\, AR. She received her BA from Hendrix College and is pursuing an MFA at the University of Arkansas\, supplementing her education through programs at the New York Studio School and The Mount Gretna School of Art. Kresse teaches workshops at the Arts and Science Center for Southeast Arkansas. \n\n\n\nWorking primarily in oils\, she creates vibrant narrative paintings that explore human connection within the Southern landscape\, particularly focusing on intimate scenes along Arkansas rivers. Her documentary-style approach captures moments of profound connection between community members\, investigating themes of isolation\, beauty\, and love in the American South. Drawing inspiration from regional poetry and direct observation\, Kresse’s work proposes comfort and connection as forms of resistance\, presenting authentic representations of her community. \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nARTWORK: Greta Kresse\, Like a Bug in Brandy (detail)\, oil on board\, 30 x 30 in. \nThe Windgate Art School is generously supported in part by the Windgate Foundation with additional support from Sherry Worthen in memory of George Worthen. \nWindgate Art School’s Reduced Tuition Program is supported by Michael Laughter. Reduced tuition is automatically applied to all classes through 2025. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Glass Workshop with Kate Clements (SOLD OUT)
DESCRIPTION:Frit is often considered an accessory glass. But through this hands-on workshop\, Delta Triennial artist Kate Clements will demonstrate how you can make frit the centerpiece of a glass artwork. \nWorking with simple tools to create complex patterns and images\, experiment with pushing the boundaries of fragility and harnessing the potential of material transformation. \nAbout Kate Clements\nKate Clements constructs delicate and ornate large scale paintings and installations comprised of kiln fused glass panels. Working with frit\, a type of crushed glass\, she sifts\, scatters\, and pushes the sugar-like substance on a kiln shelf to form dimensional drawings. \nThe wafer-thin panels reference naturalistic designs and floral motifs that she uses to explore ideas of beauty\, taste\, and impermanence. Utilizing the seductive qualities of glass\, Clements draws the viewer in\, but upon further inspection the work reflects a nervous tension and precariousness that is palpable. \nClements received an MFA in Glass from the Tyler School of Art & Architecture in Philadelphia and a BFA in Painting and Art History from the Kansas City Art Institute. \nHer work has been exhibited at the Bellevue Arts Museum (WA)\, Houston Center of Contemporary Craft (TX)\, Hunterdon Art Museum (NJ)\, Philadelphia Art Alliance (PA)\, Urban Glass (NYC)\, and S12 Gallery (Norway). \nShe has been awarded residencies at Studios Inc and the Charlotte Street Foundation in Kansas City\, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City\, Pilchuck Glass School\, and S12 Gallery in Bergen\, Norway. Valentine received his MFA from Colorado State University with a concentration in Drawing. His drawings explore ideas of spiritual practice and phenomenology through processes of repetition. Using ubiquitous tools\, his meticulous drawings become documents of his physical\, emotional and spiritual states of being. The geometries of the work seek a tension between movement and stillness\, becoming objects of reflection and presentness.  \nValentine’s work has been exhibited in museums\, universities\, and galleries on five continents\, and widely throughout the US. His work is in the permanent loan collection at King’s College\, Cambridge (London\, UK) as well as the Heintzman Collection\, which is pledged to the Peoria Riverfront Museum (Peoria\, IL). \nValentine has had solo exhibitions at universities around the US\, such as Penn State Altoona (Altoona\, PA) and Weber State University (Ogden\, UT). In 2023\, he had a solo exhibition of his work at the Department of Culture in Dolores\, Uruguay. He has attended residencies at The School of Visual Arts\, New York; Barac Mannheim Residency in Mannheim\, Germany; and Residencia Vatelon in Villa Soriano\, Uruguay. \nClark Valentine’s collaborative projects have been exhibited at Melbourne Design Week\, in the Terrain Biennial\, and in various international museums and universities. He is a founding member of the I Found U Collective – a collective of artists from four continents who work to create international collaborations which investigate the relationship between consciousness and digital space in a globalizing world. \n\nClark Valentine (Colorado Springs\, Colorado\, 1997 – )\, Untitled (Weaving 7) (detail)\, 2023\, ink on paper\, 60 x 50 in.\, Courtesy of the artist. \nDelta Triennial is presented by Anne and Merritt Dyke. \nAdditional support provided by Friday\, Eldredge & Clark\, LLP and the Andre Simon Memorial Trust Fund in memory of everyone who has died of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
