SUMMARY:Meditative Sundays
DESCRIPTION:Explore meditation\, reflection\, and creative awareness inside AMFA’s exhibition A Month of Sundays: Art and the Persistence of Time\, where art becomes a guide for slowing down\, calming the mind\, and reconnecting to the present. \nLed in collaboration with specialists from the UAMS Mindfulness Program\, Meditative Sundays offers a guided experience\, from meditation and slow looking to sound baths and yoga. As the series unfolds\, deepen focus\, release stress\, and build support well-being and connection through art. \nIn this session\, settle into deep listening as resonant tones from singing bowls\, gongs\, and contemplative instruments wash through the space. The layered sounds quiet the mind\, ease stress\, and create a grounded sense of presence before visiting the Galleries to explore the art on view. \n\nThe Mid-South Cohort\, a multi-year\, multi-institutional exhibition partnership formed by the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art\, in collaboration with the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts\, the Birmingham Museum of Art\, Fisk University Art Gallery\, and the Mississippi Museum of Art\, is made possible by the Art Bridges Cohort Program. This exhibition was organized by the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts. \n \nPhoto by Sara Reeves.

SUMMARY:Retyping "True Grit"
DESCRIPTION:Experience artist Tim Youd’s meditative act of retyping novels one keystroke at a time. Over the course of 10 days\, Youd continues his 100 Novels Project here at AMFA by retyping Charles Portis’s True Grit amongst the art on view in A Month of Sundays: Art and the Persistence of Time. \nThe 100 Novels Project is an ongoing performance artwork in which Youd retypes novels from beginning to end in locations that play a central role in the novels. By retyping True Grit in Little Rock – the city where Portis once lived and worked – Youd honors one of Arkansas’s most iconic literary voices\, using endurance\, focus\, and time to reflect on and appreciate the novel’s enduring impact on American identity. \nDrop by the Harriet and Warren Stephens Gallery to witness Youd’s practice up close! Retyping True Grit is ongoing from March 19 to 28\, 2026. \nPhoto by Tracy Tucker. \nAbout Tim Youd\nTim Youd (b. 1967\, Worcester\, MA) is a performance and visual artist working in painting\, sculpture\, and video. To date\, he has retyped 84 novels at various locations in the United States and Europe. Residencies at historic writers’ homes have included William Faulkner’s Rowan Oak with the University of Mississippi Art Museum (Oxford\, MS)\, Flannery O’Connor’s Andalusia with SCAD (Milledgeville and Savannah\, GA)\, Carson McCullers’ Childhood Home (Columbus\, GA) and Virginia Woolf’s Monk’s House (Rodmell\, Sussex). \nYoud’s work has been the subject of numerous museum exhibitions\, including Atlanta Contemporary\, CAMSTL\, The Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center at Vassar College\, Hanes Art Gallery at Wake Forest University\, The New Orleans Museum of Art\, Monterey Museum of Art\, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego\, and the Lancaster Museum of Art and History. \nHe has presented and performed his 100 Novels Project at the Ackland Art Museum\, Weatherspoon Art Museum\, Art Omi\, Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE)\, and LAXART\, and retyped Joe Orton’s Collected Plays at The Queen’s Theatre with MOCA London. \nYoud’s performances have been reviewed by The New York Times\, Artforum\, Artnet News\, Hyperallergic\, The Village Voice\, The Art Newspaper\, Interview\, and a variety of other national and international publications. His studio is based in Los Angeles. SUMMARY:Collecting Conversation with Martin Muller
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate his recent gift of 119 modern and contemporary works to the Museum\, gallerist and bon vivant Martin Muller is joining us for a special evening of conversation with AMFA’s Jackye and Curtis Finch\, Jr.\, Curator of Drawings\, Dr. Catherine Walworth. \nSince founding San Francisco’s Modernism Gallery in 1979\, Muller has championed artists through his collecting\, exhibiting\, and publishing endeavors. Notable examples include the first major Bay Area exhibition of Andy Warhol’s work in 1982 and the first solo exhibition in the United States for Swiss architect and artist Le Corbusier in 2003. \nOver the years\, Muller has maintained a close relationship with AMFA and local art collectors\, co-organizing the Museum’s 2018 exhibition Independent Vision: Modern and Contemporary from the Martin Muller Collection and lending works by Marc Chagall and Pablo Picasso for last year’s blockbuster exhibition Rivera’s Paris. \nHighlights of his gift to AMFA include works by modern artists Oleksandr Bohomazov\, Natalia Goncharova\, and Mikhail Larionov; Dadaist and fashion photographer Erwin Blumenfeld; socio-political artist Gottfried Helnwein; realist John Register; formal abstraction artist James Hayward; sculptor Kristine Mays; and Pop artist Mel Ramos\, among many others. In many ways\, Muller’s donation commemorates his half century-long relationship with the city of Little Rock and the love of art collecting he has fostered among its residents. \nThis event begins at 5:30 p.m. with drinks and socializing. The conversation commences at 6:00 p.m. and concludes with a Q&A. \n\nARTWORK: Gottfried Helnwein (Vienna\, Austria\, 1948 – )\, Portrait of Martin Muller (detail)\, 1996\, gelatin silver print\, 11 5/8 x 7/ 7/8 in.
