DESCRIPTION:Discover the powerful connection between art and science in Nathalie Miebach’s Under A Restless Sky\, AMFA’s newest site-specific installation opening on August 2\, 2025. \nMiebach will share how she merges scientific precision with artistic expression\, transforming weather data into stunning 3D sculptures. She deeply researches and tracks data connected to weather patterns and natural disasters to explore their impact on people’s lives. Like a scientist\, Miebach gathers research and creates data sets\, translating the information into colorful\, playful\, and even hopeful installations made from painted paper\, wood\, and other various materials. Miebach distills the scientific complexity behind her work to reveal human stories of resilience and ingenuity in the face of our changing environment. \n\n\n\nVisually stunning\, Miebach’s installations also function as multi-act\, musical scores interpreted by composers to function both visually and aurally. \n\n\n\nMiebach holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Eastern Asian Studies from Oberlin College\, Ohio\, along with two Master’s degrees\, in Fine Arts\, sculpture\, and Art Education both from the Massachusetts College of Arts. She also completed courses in astronomy\, physics\, and oceanography at the Harvard University Extension\, School\, Massachusetts. Miebach’s solo exhibitions include presentations at the Institute of Contemporary Art – San Diego\, California\, the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft\, Houston\, Texas\, and Fuller Craft Museum\, Brockton\, Massachusetts among others. She has also participated in group presentations at numerous institutions including\, Louisiana State University Museum of Art\, Baton Rouge\, Louisiana\, Massachusetts Institute of Technology\, Cambridge\, Massachusetts\, Peabody Essex Museum\, Salem\, Massachusetts\, Minneapolis Museum of Art\, Minnesota\, the Milwaukee Art Museum\, Wisconsin\, and the Frist Museum of Art\, Nashville\, Tennessee\, among others. \n\n\n\nLearn more about the artist here. \n\n\n\nNathalie Miebach: Under A Restless Sky is supported in part by The Brown Foundation\, Inc. of Houston. \nThis exhibition is organized by the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts. \nARTWORK: Nathalie Miebach (Zeven\, Germany\, 1972 – )\, Under A Restless Sky (detail)\, 2025\, paper\, wood\, reed\, and data\, Commissioned by the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts\, 2025 – 2027\, © Nathalie Miebach.<?p> \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n

SUMMARY:Collecting Conversation with Martin Muller
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate his recent gift of 119 modern and contemporary works to the Museum\, gallerist and bon vivant Martin Muller is joining us for a special evening of conversation with AMFA’s Jackye and Curtis Finch\, Jr.\, Curator of Drawings\, Dr. Catherine Walworth. \nSince founding San Francisco’s Modernism Gallery in 1979\, Muller has championed artists through his collecting\, exhibiting\, and publishing endeavors. Notable examples include the first major Bay Area exhibition of Andy Warhol’s work in 1982 and the first solo exhibition in the United States for Swiss architect and artist Le Corbusier in 2003. \nOver the years\, Muller has maintained a close relationship with AMFA and local art collectors\, co-organizing the Museum’s 2018 exhibition Independent Vision: Modern and Contemporary from the Martin Muller Collection and lending works by Marc Chagall and Pablo Picasso for last year’s blockbuster exhibition Rivera’s Paris. \nHighlights of his gift to AMFA include works by modern artists Oleksandr Bohomazov\, Natalia Goncharova\, and Mikhail Larionov; Dadaist and fashion photographer Erwin Blumenfeld; socio-political artist Gottfried Helnwein; realist John Register; formal abstraction artist James Hayward; sculptor Kristine Mays; and Pop artist Mel Ramos\, among many others. In many ways\, Muller’s donation commemorates his half century-long relationship with the city of Little Rock and the love of art collecting he has fostered among its residents. \nThis event begins at 5:30 p.m. with drinks and socializing. The conversation commences at 6:00 p.m. and concludes with a Q&A. \n\nARTWORK: Gottfried Helnwein (Vienna\, Austria\, 1948 – )\, Portrait of Martin Muller (detail)\, 1996\, gelatin silver print\, 11 5/8 x 7/ 7/8 in.
