SUMMARY:Uncommon Weaving with Found Materials Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Weave a unique tapestry using found objects\, fabric\, and other unconventional materials inspired by AMFA’s exhibition\, Uncommon Threads in Contemporary Art. \nAn experienced textile artist will guide you through the weaving process and reference the artwork on display. A visit to the galleries will inspire the artwork you create during this workshop. Other materials that may be used to create your tapestry are yarn\, string\, and sewing thread. \n\nThe Windgate Art School is generously supported by the Windgate Foundation with additional support from Sherry Worthen in memory of George Worthen. \nThe Windgate Art School’s Reduced Tuition Program is supported by Michael Laughter. DESCRIPTION:Join glass artists Sage and Tom Holland for a presentation that traces the history of glass beadmaking from its earliest beginnings to the 20th century\, sharing findings from decades of their studio practice and historical research. \nTheir work\, which informs many of the workshops they teach\, introduces time-honored techniques in glass flameworking and encourages other makers to develop contemporary designs through careful skill and thoughtful application. \nFollowing this special presentation\, Sage and Tom Holland are leading an advanced glass beadmaking workshop on March 21 & 22 in AMFA’s Windgate Art School. DESCRIPTION:This special program invites young artists to enjoy an afternoon of live theatre and hands-on artmaking! \nYoung artists will begin in the Windgate Art School\, exploring drawing and sculpture as they start a creative project inspired by storytelling. At 2:00 p.m.\, students will attend a live performance of Elephant and Piggie’s “We Are in a Play!” in AMFA’s Performing Arts Theater. \nAfter the show\, students return to the studio to finish their artwork\, using the characters and animal adventures they saw on stage to bring their ideas to life. \n\nElephant & Piggie’s “We Are in a Play!” is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). SUMMARY:Gelli Plate Printmaking Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Create unique colorful artworks with a monoprinting technique that is rapidly growing in popularity: gelli plate printmaking. Gelli plate printmaking uses minimal equipment\, is affordable to practice\, and is easy on the body to work with. \nYou will learn to layer colors\, incorporate stencils\, and use found objects to print one-of-a-kind images onto paper.
