SUMMARY:Fireside Chair Making Workshop (SOLD OUT)
DESCRIPTION:This one-session workshop offers an excellent introduction to hand tools used commonly in woodworking to create a traditional fireside chair from readily available 2×12-inch lumber. \nGain hands-on experience using a variety of tools\, including the circular saw\, miter saw\, jig saw\, cordless hand-drill and router. Under expert guidance\, you will measure\, layout the project and learn to safely operate tools. \nThe simple design of this chair easily breaks down for ease of storage and transport. Students are encouraged to cut the profile of the chair back in any way they see fit using the hand tools covered in this workshop. \n\nThe Windgate Art School is generously supported by the Windgate Foundation with additional support from Sherry Worthen in memory of George Worthen. \nThe Windgate Art School’s Reduced Tuition Program is supported by Michael Laughter. Once your design is set\, you will experience the thrill of enameling as your piece is fired with transparent enamel to reveal and preserve copper’s vibrant “heat patina.” \nThis class is a fantastic opportunity to experiment with typography as a decorative element and explore the interaction between metal\, fire\, and enamel. \nPlease bring your lunch.
