SUMMARY:Drawing Workshop with Clark Valentine (SOLD OUT)
DESCRIPTION:Explore the intersection of mindfulness and artmaking through a meditative ink drawing session with Delta Triennial artist Clark Valentine. \nThrough a series of mindfulness practices and drawing exercises\, students are encouraged to explore their “present-ness” in the creation of two drawings. The first drawing will be a response to body\, emotion\, and thought awareness\, while the second drawing will respond to the Museum’s architecture. \nUntitled (Weaving 7) (pictured above) is on view in the Delta Triennial from June 28 – August 25\, 2024. \nAbout Clark Valentine\nClark Valentine (b.1997) lives and maintains a studio in Little Rock\, Arkansas. Valentine received his MFA from Colorado State University with a concentration in Drawing. His drawings explore ideas of spiritual practice and phenomenology through processes of repetition. Using ubiquitous tools\, his meticulous drawings become documents of his physical\, emotional and spiritual states of being. The geometries of the work seek a tension between movement and stillness\, becoming objects of reflection and presentness.  \nValentine’s work has been exhibited in museums\, universities\, and galleries on five continents\, and widely throughout the US. His work is in the permanent loan collection at King’s College\, Cambridge (London\, UK) as well as the Heintzman Collection\, which is pledged to the Peoria Riverfront Museum (Peoria\, IL). \nValentine has had solo exhibitions at universities around the US\, such as Penn State Altoona (Altoona\, PA) and Weber State University (Ogden\, UT). In 2023\, he had a solo exhibition of his work at the Department of Culture in Dolores\, Uruguay. He has attended residencies at The School of Visual Arts\, New York; Barac Mannheim Residency in Mannheim\, Germany; and Residencia Vatelon in Villa Soriano\, Uruguay. \nClark Valentine’s collaborative projects have been exhibited at Melbourne Design Week\, in the Terrain Biennial\, and in various international museums and universities. He is a founding member of the I Found U Collective – a collective of artists from four continents who work to create international collaborations which investigate the relationship between consciousness and digital space in a globalizing world. \n\nClark Valentine (Colorado Springs\, Colorado\, 1997 – )\, Untitled (Weaving 7) (detail)\, 2023\, ink on paper\, 60 x 50 in.\, Courtesy of the artist. \nDelta Triennial is presented by Anne and Merritt Dyke. \nAdditional support provided by Friday\, Eldredge & Clark\, LLP and the Andre Simon Memorial Trust Fund in memory of everyone who has died of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Art Demonstration with Kate Clements
DESCRIPTION:Learn more about Delta Triennial artist Kate Clements and her artistic practice during a free lecture and live artmaking demonstration. Clements will offer attendees a deep dive into her artwork\, research\, and concepts\, then showcase her unique method of working with glass. \nSolarium (pictured above) is on view in the Delta Triennial from June 28 – August 25\, 2024. \nAbout Kate Clements\nKate Clements constructs delicate and ornate large scale paintings and installations comprised of kiln fused glass panels. Working with frit\, a type of crushed glass\, she sifts\, scatters\, and pushes the sugar-like substance on a kiln shelf to form dimensional drawings. \nThe wafer-thin panels reference naturalistic designs and floral motifs that she uses to explore ideas of beauty\, taste\, and impermanence. Utilizing the seductive qualities of glass\, Clements draws the viewer in\, but upon further inspection the work reflects a nervous tension and precariousness that is palpable. \nClements received an MFA in Glass from the Tyler School of Art & Architecture in Philadelphia and a BFA in Painting and Art History from the Kansas City Art Institute. \nHer work has been exhibited at the Bellevue Arts Museum (WA)\, Houston Center of Contemporary Craft (TX)\, Hunterdon Art Museum (NJ)\, Philadelphia Art Alliance (PA)\, Urban Glass (NYC)\, and S12 Gallery (Norway). \nShe has been awarded residencies at Studios Inc and the Charlotte Street Foundation in Kansas City\, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City\, Pilchuck Glass School\, and S12 Gallery in Bergen\, Norway. She lives and works in Kansas City. \n\nKate Clements (Iowa City\, Iowa\, 1989 – )\, Solarium (detail)\, 2022\, kiln fired glass on painted panel\, 83 x 63 x 3 in.\, Courtesy of the artist.
